ParaThermic® Battery Thermal Management

ParaThermic® High-Heat Transfer (HHT) Batteries:
A Paradigm Shift for Battery Thermal Management

A prismatic battery cell showing thermal temperature gradients from lack of thermal management or poor battery thermal management system (BTMS). The heat generation at the center of the battery makes the cell hotter toward the center of the cell and cooler toward the edges. But the temperature gradient pattern depends on the cooling boundary conditions. It depends on not only the location of the cooling or heating applied but also the cooling method such as air cooling, liquid cooling, refrigerant cooling or phase change.
Disassembled view of a ParaThermic® battery showing the battery cell, lid and ThermalConnect® partially outside the battery case. The ThermalConnect® bar thermally but not electrically interfaces with the battery cases to provide a cooling path between the battery case and in-plane heat transfer path of the battery cell. The battery thermal management system (BTMS) can then effectively interface with the battery case and remove heat with exceptional results.
